What was the #1 reason you decided to start your career with MGM MIRAGE

The property and people that I would be working with and the potential for advancement.

Have you been mentored at MGM MIRAGE?

Yes. My mentor was also my boss so we talked about things every day and actually had scheduled meetings once a week.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Our department is small and we all have a lot of responsibilities so meeting deadlines is often a challenge but is something that can't be changed.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I have a lot of guest interaction so when they praise something that I coordinated it is rewarding. The perks of the property and the town are also pretty sweet, too.

What have you done that "they didn't teach you about in school"?

I have dealt a lot with all different types of people and it has been a challenge to understand how to interact with each of them differently. The only way to learn that is through actual experience. It definitely pays to be outgoing and unafraid to talk to someone you don't know.

"If I knew then what I know now"

If I knew exactly what I would be doing I would have concentrated on it more with my coursework. I don't regret it because I love what I do and I love learning it on the fly.

What do you do for fun?

Visitors are a frequent occurrence and most want to go to The Strip. In my line of work, I meet a lot of people with a lot of connections and it has proven very helpful in getting into clubs and showing my visitors a good time. It goes both ways as I will recommend business to the nightclubs where I know the most people. The Strip is not the only place to have fun as a lot of people who work on The Strip would rather relax at a local place and there are plenty of them all over.

What surprised you about Las Vegas?

There is more than just The Strip. There are suburbs, trees, parks, and a lot of outdoor activities to participate in.
